Comments Chapter 2:
a) As you mentioned, the mitochondria produce energy from food. In the hair follicle, this energy is used to help the hair grow. This is one of the reasons why it is so important for your client to eat properly … 3+ meals, etc.
b) Protein synthesis is the process by which the hair protein (keratin) is formed. Again, eating protein in the diet is important in hair growth.
c) The importance of the mitochondria and cell membranes are important when learning how laser therapy and minoxidil (respectively) may help hair growth. This will be discussed later in the course.
d) Mitochondrial DNA can be used to test the ancestral genome through the maternal side; and recent research indicates it may also be used for the paternal side as well.
