13.2.3 Hamilton-Norwood scale: Type 2

  • Type 2 is the first category that shows male pattern alopecia and is, therefore, the earliest stage.  With this type, a mild or moderate recession at the temples has occurred.  In the temple area, some finer, shorter hairs—some without pigment (called vellus hairs)—have replaced thicker, darker hairs (called terminal hairs).  The crown area of the scalp has lost very little, if any, hair.
