9.1.4 Loose Areolar Tissue
- occupies the subaponeurotic space (below the aponeurosis)
- loosely connects the epicranial aponeurosis to the periosteum of the skull (also called the pericranium)
- contains a few small arteries (not shown on this picture)
- contains emissary veins which are valveless – this means that blood can flow in both directions
